On Thursday June 10th, 2021, in the twelfth round of a ten year match, just before the ding of the bell, Al Paul packed up his big heart, stubborn soul, radiant smile, crossed the ropes, and walked away from his battle with brain cancer.

Al left the world the way he lived in it, on his own terms and with his wife and son by his side. “Armed with will, and determination and grace too.”

He is neck deep in powder now, or shooting the round of his life with any angel lucky enough to join him.

Al wanted everyone to know that life is beautiful, worth every adventure you

say yes to, and a perfect day can be as large as a long walk up a mountain or as simple as a movie day on the couch with the people you love. Also (and he really can’t stress this enough): He was the best skier on the mountain.

The story of when I first met Al….

in Forum: For the Love of Al Paul

March Break 2019, Alex and I were traveling down from Bella Bella to visit the Island Paul’s. We were just pulling into Campbell River when Heather messaged Alex saying they were coming over as well! It’s always a bit nerve-racking meeting the family of your significant other, but meeting Al was on a whole new level! Alex certainly had sung him his high praises and although I thought getting his parent’s approval was one thing, getting Al’s was something else!

Leading up to this moment, my only interactions with him were through his hilarious and witty Facebook comments. Granted they were also on my quite cheesy, lovey-dovey posts with his nephew!

As soon as they arrived, Al and his beautiful family welcomed me in and although I was still nervous, they made me feel like part of the family. That is one of the many great things I’ve noticed about Al during the time I’ve known him. Even though I haven’t known him long, Al has quite an infectious energy about him that makes you feel like you have.
