I don't remember exactly the first time I met you, Al. Sometime in the 90s here in Whistler. Maybe through Wendy & Coner. The details are fuzzy but the feeling is clear, like always when I see you: 100% good vibes. Every interaction we've ever had together buzzed with good energy. From talking about our boys at gymnastics when they were toddling around like tiny hilarious zombies, to comparing notes on our cancer treatments - positive vibes, every single time. You radiate a smile (I actually can't recall ever seeing you without a smile) and a sincerity, a genuineness of character that is so unique and beautiful. Your sense of humour and love of life shines through, always. And it's also clear that underneath all of that gentle, fun-loving sweetness is a solid Douglas-fir-likestrength, unshakable. Thank you for being such a great human and for living life so awesomely. We are blessed and so grateful to have crossed your path in this world. Life isn't forever. Love is. I wish for you to be surrounded millionfold in the love that you've always spread to others. When you smile and laugh and love in the next realm, we will feel it in the sunshine, the wind and the snow. Sending so much wild love to you, Al. And enormous hugs. Love from all of us - Tina, Dan + Cove

On Thursday June 10th, 2021, in the twelfth round of a ten year match, just before the ding of the bell, Al Paul packed up his big heart, stubborn soul, radiant smile, crossed the ropes, and walked away from his battle with brain cancer.
Al left the world the way he lived in it, on his own terms and with his wife and son by his side. “Armed with will, and determination and grace too.”
He is neck deep in powder now, or shooting the round of his life with any angel lucky enough to join him.
Al wanted everyone to know that life is beautiful, worth every adventure you
say yes to, and a perfect day can be as large as a long walk up a mountain or as simple as a movie day on the couch with the people you love. Also (and he really can’t stress this enough): He was the best skier on the mountain.
